A. DIVIDING DECIMALS BY POWERS OF TEN

To divide a decimal by 10 (one zero), we move the decimal point one place to the left. If we divide by 100 (two zeros) we move the decimal point two places to the left,……by 1000 (three zeros)……three places…

Examples:
2.31 : 100 = 0.0231 0.01 :1000 = 0.00001

 

B. DIVIDING WHOLE NUMBERS, WITH DECIMALS

Continue the whole division adding zeros to the right of the number that is being divided until you get the amount of decimal digits required or until the end.
Example:

C. DIVIDING A DECIMAL NUMBER BY A WHOLE NUMBER

Divide normally and when you get down the tenth digit, then put the decimal point in the quotient and continue with the division.

  

 

D. DIVIDING A DECIMAL NUMBER BY A DECIMAL NUMBER

First, you have to convert the number as if you are dividing by a whole number. You can do this by moving the decimal point of both numbers to the right:

Now you are dividing by a whole number, and can continue as normal.
