Intersection points with axis

To find these points graphically, we have to look for the coordinates of the intersection points between the graph and the axes.

To find the intersection points with the axis algebraically, we have to solve the systems:

Example: f(x) = x2 + x - 2    cuts the axis at points  (-2,0), (1,0) and (0,-2)

Exercise: find the intersection points with axis of these functions:

a) y = x + 7

b) y = x2 - 1

c) y = -3x + 1

Solutions: a) (-7,0),(0,7); b) (-1,0),(1,0),(0,-1); c) (1/3,0),(0,1)
