Comparing Whole Numbers

To compare two Whole Numbers:

- When both are positive, the number which has bigger a absolute value is greater :
7>3

- When both are negative, the number which has a lower absolute value is greater :
-7<-3

- When one of them is positive and the other is negative, the positive number is greater :
7>-2

- All the positive numbers  are greater than zero and all the negative numbers are lower than zero
-3<0<7

Exercise.- Order from lower to greater these sets of Whole Numbers:

a)  -3, 15, -11, 7, -1, 0

b) -1, 2, 5, -5, -111, 1001, 0

Solutions: a) -11 < -3 < -1 < 0 < 7 < 15; b) -111 < -5 < -1 < 0 < 2 < 5 < 1001
