Vectors
A vector is an orientated segment. We represent it by AB, where A is the origin and B is the extreme.
The characteristics of a vector are:
– Magnitude or length,|AB|: the length of the segment.
– Direction: the direction of the straight line that contains it and the direction from the origin to the extreme (sense).
Each vector is defined by its magnitude, direction and sense.
Two vectors are said to be equipollent if they have the same magnitude, direction and sense. A set of vectors that are equipollent to each other is called free vector and its magnitude, direction and sense are the ones of any of the vectors of the set.
